We’re already posting an update to Scanner Go on the app store. The original x-callback-url protocols have changed slightly to make them easier to understand and implement. Look for another update in the future that allows custom actions for scanner results. We’d love to hear what kinds of actions you’d like to see with barcodes. We use Filemaker Go a lot on our iPhones. So we were looking for a way to use the iPhone camera as a barcode reader for data entry to Filemaker Go. Enter Scanner Go. By using url requests within FIlemaker Go, you can open Scanner Go, scan a barcode, and send the results directly back to a script in your mobile database. Integrating these url requests is simple to do for any app or website. Check out the protocol here. It’s available on the App Store now.

I sincerely hope no one was holding their breath for the next posting. We at Level Up finally have a new app to introduce. We’re finishing up some of the development now and starting Apple’s approval process. Entirely painless last time. This next app is called Scanner Go, and it’s coolest feature uses Apple’s URL api’s to communicate with other apps. Thanks to the folks over at x-callback-url for developing the standards for inter-app communication.
The idea is simple enough. Instead of requiring every app to implement it’s own barcode reader, the app calls Scanner Go through a custom URL. Scanner Go opens, reads the barcode (Special thanks to the programmers working on ZBar), and then sends the text right back to the requesting app!

Level Up Development Comments Off
Version 1.1 was recently released onto the app store. This adds the history table, which saves the content and image for future offline usage. We moved the info button from the right to the left bottom of the screen to accommodate the new history button. We hope this didn’t lead to any confusion and we hope you love the new feature. We also made a number of under the hood improvements to improve the amount and speed of the encoding. And we added some interface improvements that show you when you’re offline and allow you to cancel a slow encode. Enjoy!

Apple has finished their approval process on time for QR Creator, a helpful utility for creating and sharing QR codes. Six days of waiting for review, and one day of review. We’re finally ready to go live on the App Store. Check out our new QR Creator page and look for us on iTunes. Available now.

Our first app was submitted to Apple for app store approval today. Apple has said most apps are approved in a week or less, so we’ll be watching the clock closely. As soon as it’s approved we’ll be posting an app page for it with links to the App Store.

Level Up Development Apple Developer Comments Off
After programming on the iPhone simulator for months, we’ve finally set up our developer credentials in Xcode to allow testing on a real iPhone. Setting the developer certificate in our code was more difficult than Apple’s easy tutorial. It may have been the interaction with our recent upgrade to Xcode 4. Now that’s done and we can load it up for tests. Fortunately there aren’t any differences between how it was running on the simulator to the iPhone.

Well, after a lengthy approval process to become an Apple Developer, we’re finally on board. It wasn’t that difficult, but they did need to verify our articles of organization and verify our contact info. Next we’ll be preparing our first app for submittal to the app store. Stay tuned!
